There is a light that permeates the artist. Only in the most connected and dedicated of moments with the artist might you be privy to experiencing it.
In ancient Greek, the word for the highest degree of human happiness is eudaimonia, which basically means "well-daemoned" in the care of some external divine creative spirit guide.
A more contemporary wording, for those less comfortable with this sense of divinemystery, might simply be "flow" or "being in the zone."
As Elizabeth Gilbert puts it “You may know this feeling. It's the feeling you get when you've made something wonderful, or done something wonderful, and when you look back at it later, all you can say is: "I don't even know where that came from." You can't repeat it. You can't explain it. But it felt as if you were being guided.”
At their core, the artist usually is a lover of humans and all things alive, as well as life itself. There is a side to the artist that you might experience when they are at their most carefree, when in full creative flow, observing the world with childlike curiosity, at times seemingly ready to playfully pounce. This dynamic energy can be observed throughout this editorial with Adriane, Aunty, Isabella and Marietta, a collaboration which allows for a space permitting all energy; from strong, loud and fierce in one moment, to lighthearted young spirits, flying around the studio with boundless energy in the next.
The artist is inextricably connected with nature, the urban setting being the canvas.
After all, art is a reflection of society, culture and our human nature. Art is vital to society, because it is where we can visualise a potential future. This is where ideas take shape and move from the imagined to the possible.
As they show us the future, artists are also guides to reconnecting with our more primal sides. Raw emotions, reminding us that at the centre of it all we are animals, part of an ecosystem, a planet, a world, an individual of many, one of a whole.
